Freeze-thaw country: joints, curing, and the mix

Drainage and slope aren't optional
Where the water goes is a design decision, not an afterthought. A flat slab, or one that slopes toward your house or garage, sends rain and snowmelt exactly where you don't want it — pooling against the foundation, seeping into the garage, or sitting on the surface where it can freeze into a hazard and work its way into the concrete.
A good contractor plans a slight, deliberate slope that carries water away from the structure and off the slab. When you get your estimate, ask which way the water will drain. If the answer is a shrug, keep looking — pooling water against your house is a failure you'll be living with every storm.
Flatwork or a decorative finish?
